It's metal and the bulb is of high quality rubber. The tip is plastic and removable for easy cleaning. That is the part that keeps the liquids from dripping and it really works. That is of high quality as well as I have had this in some really hot juices/fats and doesn't seem to come close in melting like I have had happened to me with the cheap plastic ones. It just doesn't drip going from one spot to another. Love it. I use it alot when I'm cooking burgers or other meats in frying pan and I want to get the fats/juice out of the pan, I use the baster and let it continue to keep cooking. No tipping pans anymore.
