I had no problems with the manual model even using soy milk. I happened to come across a new electric model at BBB marked down to $44 and couldn't pass it up. I have made cappuccino with the electric using coffee that I ground myself using the "finest" setting on the coffee mill. The cappuccino came out perfect every time whether using soy milk or regular milk. I decided to buy pre-ground Starbucks Expresso Roast instead of grinding the beans myself. I noticed immediately that their coffee is not ground as fine as what I normally do myself. Well, the cappuccino was awful. It did not foam at all and not all of the coffee came up from the bottom. I re-ground the Starbucks Expresso coffee through my coffee mill to the finest ground. Guess what! It works now! Make sure you use the finest grounds possible to get this machine to work properly! This probably holds true for the manual machine as well.
